LIA Week 6
There is one week left, and that is sad :(
The questions are coming together well! We've only got 3 left; we're a bit concerned with how mathematical they seem to have become, hence the last 3 will be all applications based. I've found that I explain things much better when I write them as if I'm writing a script for a speech - which has worked to its advantage for 2 of the latest ones I've written. In that sense, I think I've improved on clarity in bringing concepts across, but specifically when writing in the style of a speech. Still, progress is progress, and that means as compared to improving it on it's own, I can also use this improvement to effect improvements in my other explaining styles as well.
We will be asking how much freedom we have with the Instagram, currently going completely corporate so it's admittedly a bit dry; but it could also just nosedive down the Duolingo pathway which would be fun. We'll also be trying to get a final meeting to wrap things up - currently we're very open to continuing to help remotely, but will see how that goes. On another note, I've got another friend to agree to potentially promote this to Singapore Schools! Follow https://www.instagram.com/aiadventcalendar/ @aiadventcalendar
We've also started group studying missing semester, doing one lecture per day. The side quest has not had many updates, but hopefully we learn more through it too. We went to Luxembourg over the weekend (all hail DeutschBahn "free" tickets), and found a trampoline park. I am amazed at the fitness child me had, which has furthered my resolve to continue using the standing desks in the office.
On the trip to Luxembourg, we also made a friend, E. He's from Mexico, and in Kaiserslautern for a work-study programme for mechanical engineering (he works for 6 months and studies for 6). It was really interesting hearing about his perspectives, such as how he felt German companies could be really good to work in for engineering (they are, indeed, very good), and that he had Indonesian friends who were taking courses in Germany with the goal of eventually working in Singapore (Geographically, this seems like a round trip, but the tradeoff of a much cheaper yet still good university education worked out for them). Though, it is worth noting that he also mentioned that many students here also seemed to have relatives in Germany, potentially leading to some selection bias for the points above. He also shared about what it was like moving here, and it was really impressive how he could speak so many languages- we met him today again for lunch in the student canteen, but I will leave that for next week's reflection.
It's a bit sad at how quickly this seems to have ended - the people have been really chill and supportive, and it's been interesting hearing their perspectives. the last week shall go well.
All in all, all on track. :)
