LiA Week 5 Reflection
How did the week go overall?
Week 5 was a refreshing change from the emotionally intense previous weeks. I wrapped up the interviews with the immigrant women, which marked a significant milestone in my project. The latter part of the week was filled with cultural experiences that were both fun and educational, providing a much-needed balance.
What went well?
The completion of the interviews was a major accomplishment. Each conversation provided valuable insights and deepened my understanding of the immigrant experience in Castel Volturno. I also attended the Pride Parade, which was vibrant and full of positive energy. The festivities were inclusive and celebratory, offering a stark contrast to the emotional challenges of my interviews. Additionally, attending a traditional Italian festival gave me a wonderful opportunity to immerse myself in local culture, try new foods, and participate in traditional activities. These experiences were enjoyable and enriching.
What could have been done differently?
This week went smoothly, and there isn’t much I would change. If anything, I could have planned my schedule to ensure more time for relaxation and self-care earlier in the project. Experiencing the local culture and engaging in community events earlier might have provided a better balance throughout my stay.
What did I learn about myself while working with others?
I learned that balancing work and leisure is crucial for maintaining emotional well-being. While the interviews were rewarding, participating in community events like the Pride Parade and the traditional festival helped me recharge and connect with people in a different context. These positive interactions reinforced the importance of finding joy and celebration even amidst challenging work.
What did I learn about leadership?
This week highlighted the importance of creating a positive and inclusive environment. The Pride Parade exemplified how communities can come together to celebrate diversity and promote acceptance. Witnessing this reinforced my understanding of leadership as fostering inclusivity and support. Additionally, the traditional festival showcased the value of cultural appreciation and participation, reminding me that good leadership also involves engaging with and understanding the community you are part of.
What do I want to develop and focus on next?
Moving forward, I want to integrate more cultural and community activities into my schedule, ensuring a balance between work and personal well-being. I also plan to reflect on the insights gained from the interviews and begin synthesizing the information for my project. Additionally, I aim to stay connected with the community in Castel Volturno, possibly finding ways to contribute further beyond the scope of my initial project.
