LiA Week 5 Log - CDMX - Last Dash and Some Plants of Labour
In the second-to-last week, most of the time is set as free time to complete our deliverables. Therefore, we added the remaining features and polished the details and the looks of the website. We also learnt the details of pitching our work in preparation on the final presentation next week.
On Wednesday, we visited Huerto Roma Verde, an organisation focusing on spreading eco-conciousness to the population. Built on previously abandoned land, the site sits in the centre of the city, with many buildings built with organic materials. On our day of visiting the site also features a marketplace featuring local produce. They also have a garden with various native plants in Mexico City
On Saturday, some of us joined a volunteering experience by Red de Corredores ecológicos, an organization focusing on biodiversity and ecosystem within the city. The experience includes an information session and a planting session. We were first asked whether we have seen dead trees in the city, which we did. Turns out the reason is that trees should be living in an ecosystem with other plants. Without fallen leaves on the soil, there is no source of nutrients to the soil and the tree. Therefore, in order to plant trees in urban areas sustainably, they should be planted along with various types of plants. Their idea is build a green corridor along the street, where previous plantations will be transformed into a mini ecosystem along the street.
