LiA Week 4
Most of my free time outside the clinic is spent with music. For the past 15 years, I've been learning South Indian classical, or Carnatic, vocal music, and Chennai is the hub for this art form, with countless musicians, listeners, and venues that call it home. My teachers live in Chennai, so most days after work I head to their house for intensive training sessions. Since I spend most of the year learning through Zoom or Google Meet, it's really rewarding to be able to get valuable in-person time as I'm here for 6 weeks. On other evenings, I head to the neighborhood of Mylapore to check out whatever concert or showcase is happening that day. On the weekends, I've been visiting various extended family members who live in Chennai, and trying a lot of new food places with my cousins. Usually, whenever we visit Chennai with our families, our food mostly consists of homemade food, but this time, I've made it a goal to try a lot of the different food places and cuisines that Chennai has to offer. Finally, I've also been happy to visit friends and family in other cities in South India, such as Bangalore and Thanjavur.
