This week in Dhaka, I asked Sayeeda Khan, founder of Sheva's Sustainable Jamdani—Sustainable Enterprise Project (SEP) and Tanaporen boutique, more about her work and her book, Old Jamdani Design, to preserve traditional Jamdani design. Unfortunately,  I have to leave Dhaka, Bangladesh, earlier than expected and am travelling to Kolkata in the West Bengal region of India, which shares the legacy of textiles.

Darshan Shah, owner and founder of Weaver's Studio, who I hope to interview next week, found many of the old Jamdani motifs published in Old Jamdani Design by Sayeeda Khan of Sheva's Sustainable Jamdani and Tanaporen. The book contains many images of old Jamdani motifs and designs on full-length sarees and illustrations to guide the weavers. I would read the book in Tanaporen, written in English and Bangla, side by side on my visits to Tanaporen. After almost half a decade outside of Bangladesh and West Bengal, it is a pleasure to reconnect with the Bangla language and communicate in Bangla during Leadership in Action.
