In my project, work environment has been completely different than what I am accustomed to in the US. Here in the office, the work environment is very relaxed as members of the project all socialize as they work. My second week was spent getting a couple assignments for how best I can contribute to the organization from a psychological lens, and was spent talking to many of the project members such as the President of the organization, the Program Director, the Vice President, etc. The President of the organization suggested that I have these conversations with many people from the office to understand a different lens through which one would describe the organization and their work, especially as different people have different areas of expertise within the various roles of the organization. I’ve been having conversations with various members of the office about how they view their work and the organization, and it has been interesting to hear a slightly different perspective from everyone. The organization is heading towards building months-long training workshops for both the women facing DV and mental health counselors that is anchored in psychology. As an office, we all collectively decided that I would take on the role of outlining this training workshop that will cover a 3 month long training period. My only concern was my lack of knowledge and expertise in advanced level counseling topics that I would need to design the training workshop. I brought up this concern to the President who will be working closely with me on advanced counseling topics to ensure all information is accurate and relevant.

Glad you've been getting to talk to and hear a lot of different perspectives! I've also noticed the work culture in the UK is very different here compared to the lab environments I've been in before. I feel like people are around much more in the communal spaces compared to in the US where people leave when they are done with experiments or work for the day, whereas here people seem to stick around and socialize during the day and during downtime.
