Hi there!

This was my second week as an intern for Mariame Kaba and Sojourners for Justice Press in New York City as part of my LiA this summer. 

I have spent the first week and better part of this week getting my footing as an intern, which is a new role for me and I'm excited for what I will learn through this experience. So far, it has been a lot of time spent familiarizing myself with the SJP archives and work to be done over the course of my six weeks here. Most importantly, it has been crucial for me to understand how the theory and practice of radical Black Feminist praxis is to Mariame's personal work and Sojourners for Justice. As a Barnard Student Zine Librarian, I have spent a lot of time archiving and reading Mariame's zines that we have in our collection. It has been a dream to be able to see the breadth of the SJP imprint's work in zines and chapbooks on the histories and experiences of Black women in America whose stories have been obscured for decades now. 

I am excited to keep learning about these histories and contributing to preserving them. I know that this will be so incredible for my professional work at the Barnard Zine Library as well as my own interests in archiving and how radical Black Feminist works and practices can be intertwined with narrative and made accessible to people beyond the academic walls and barriers of a university.
