I have officially begun my LiA working as a reproductive health services volunteer in NYC! I began by meeting with my supervisors and other volunteers. Together we discussed mindful practices when working with patients and walking through what a day will look like on-site. Through this volunteering program I will be working both at the clinic as a practical support volunteer, and also throughout the city working at various health fairs. Additionally, I will also be able to help conduct some practical research which will help with access and awareness. I am feeling very energized to be apart of such a mission-driven, community-led group, and look forward to giving more updates as the weeks continue.
Jasmine is from Santa Cruz, California and pursuing a combined major of Medical Anthropology and Women's, Gender & Sexuality Studies at Barnard College'25. Her interests in public health and reproductive justice have led her to research on the changes in US maternal morbidity rates after the Supreme Court ruling of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which took away the constitutional right to abortion.
