LiA Week 1: Igniting Impact
Week 1 at Who is Hussain has been an enlightening and educational experience. I was introduced to the organisation's core values and operational structure through "The Academy", an online platform designed to educate and teach volunteers about Who is Hussain and how to effectively contribute to the organisation's initiatives.
Who is Hussain, a global social justice movement present in 90 cities worldwide, operates on the principles of making a positive impact in society by assisting those in need. In my placement in Hong Kong, I have witnessed the dedication of our volunteers who actively engage in events aimed at uplifting the community. These events encompass a broad spectrum of activities, ranging from aiding the homeless to organising blood donation drives to save lives.
During this first week, I delved into the intricacies of event planning within the organisation. I learned that events at Who is Hussain are typically structured around five main themes, each targeting a specific aspect of social welfare: saving the planet, saving lives, nurturing the community, providing meals, and helping those in need. This structured approach not only ensures that our efforts are focused but also maximises the impact we can have on the communities we serve.
One of the key takeaways from this initial week has been the realisation of the extensive organisation required to run a global NGO effectively. The level of coordination and planning needed to orchestrate events across various locations while maintaining the integrity of the organisation's values is truly impressive. I look forward to immersing myself further in the work of Who is Hussain and contributing meaningfully to their noble cause.
