To start my summer, I began volunteering at Christ House, a respite facility for men with medical issues experiencing homelessness. During orientation, I was introduced to my responsibilities, which include assisting in cooking and serving meals to the residents and working at the nurses' station.

In my first week, I supported the Christ House staff with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I learned about the logistics of meal planning and the accommodations required for residents based on their faith and medical conditions. I helped prepare the food and dined with the residents, which allowed me to build rapport. Additionally, I assisted in delivering meals and performing rounds with the residents in the medical wing.

During my second week, I focused entirely on working at the nurses' station. Christ House staffs a full-time care team, and I assisted by intaking individuals and learning about each resident's specific circumstances to better aid them. Given that it was my first week at the station, my tasks were limited to small clinical duties such as taking medical histories and reporting to the care team. I hope to gain more responsibilities and become independent in patient intake in the coming weeks.
