LiA Reflection Log: Week 2
What went well?
I made strong progress on the practical side of the project. I began building the prototype, ordered the materials I needed, and started collecting initial data. Seeing the project take physical form made the work feel much more real and helped me identify which parts of my original plan were realistic and which needed to be adjusted. I also became more comfortable speaking with the people around me, made more friends, and found better translation methods for conversations with nightlife workers.
What could have been done differently?
I could have planned the testing process more carefully before beginning data collection. At times, I moved quickly from building into testing without clearly defining what I wanted each test to show. This meant that some of the early data was less useful than it could have been. I also underestimated how long ordering materials and troubleshooting small technical issues would take. A clearer schedule, better documentation, and a more consistent testing method would have made the week more efficient and made it easier to compare results.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
I learned that I work best when I can combine independent problem-solving with regular conversation and feedback. I still enjoy having control over the technical side of my project, but talking through problems with others often helped me notice things I had overlooked.
What did I learn about leadership?
I learned that leadership requires flexibility and a willingness to change methods when something is not working. My original approach to communication was not always effective because of the language barrier, so I had to explore better translation tools and think more carefully about how questions were phrased. This showed me that it is not enough to simply communicate information; a leader also has to make sure that people feel understood and that their responses are interpreted responsibly.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
Next, I want to focus on refining the prototype and creating a more structured process for collecting and analysing data. I also want to continue improving the quality of my conversations with nightlife workers by testing different translation methods and asking clearer, more focused questions.
