LiA goals, objectives, and expected outcomes
The LiA project aims to design and operate volunteer-run rest stations in Hong Kong to provide immediate heat relief and basic health support for asylum seekers and homeless individuals during periods of extreme heat. The main objective is to improve access to safe, temporary cooling spaces and essential support services for vulnerable populations exposed to climate-related risks.
The project focuses on strengthening emergency community response capacity by mobilising and coordinating volunteers to deliver structured, health-oriented assistance during heatwaves. It also aims to enhance operational efficiency in field-based humanitarian service delivery through clear role allocation, pre-activation briefings, and real-time coordination during activations.
Expected outcomes include the successful operation of multiple rest station activations during extreme heat events, effective training and deployment of volunteers, and direct support provided to vulnerable individuals through hydration, cooling spaces, and basic health monitoring. The project also seeks to generate structured feedback from service users and volunteers to evaluate impact and continuously improve service delivery models.
