What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done
Despite the online internship programme, I was fascinated by how things were conducted as if I were attending the internship in person. In my first week, I got to meet my teammates virtually and was assigned a project to work on for the course of the internship. Through the cultural workshops, I was able to obtain various knowledge regarding the Fijian culture, for instance, the Sevusevu ceremony in which we could see the live process of creating the Kava drink. The host even held a virtual drink session, and I felt the warm gesture of the Fijian community. All in all, I really had a fruitful experience knowing more about Fiji culture.
What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
Since it is still the first week, I feel that everything still runs smoothly as expected. However, further discussions regarding the assigned project could be done with my teammates to find suitable ways to raise awareness about mental health to the diverse Fijian community.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
I am very delighted to be assigned to a group that shares the same passion in promoting mental awareness to the Fijian community. Although we are still in the initial stage of the project, we manage to brainstorm ideas together and divide tasks equally. I cannot wait to see how this project is going to develop and would love to contribute more to the success of the project.
What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed
Being a leader is courageous, meaning that they are willing to take risks and challenges in order to achieve their ultimate goals. In addition, they can identify problems within their surroundings and collaborate together to solve the issue.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
I want to enhance my communication skills, especially during group discussions and proactively contribute my ideas for the project’s success.
