What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done
Entering the fifth week, we received several suggestions for our group’s final posters from Lavenia and Naomi. They mentioned how we could separate the content of each topic into different posters such that the information is not too packed in a poster. We took their feedback and immediately set a deadline to complete this final revision such that we were able to show the revised posters during the last supervisor meeting next Monday. Regarding the cultural session, the Waka Family has inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and take the risks if I believe in it. I admired their courage of leaving their comfortable life in Canada and settling in Fiji as they believed in the natural resources that Fiji has for their business.
What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
During this week’s supervisor meeting, I was the one who attended the meeting on behalf of the group. However, it would be better if all of us could make some time to attend the meeting so that we could get an overall picture of what our supervisors expect from us and prevent further miscommunications on the group project.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
I learned how initiative I am to take the leadership role when no one in the group is. For instance, everyone is very busy with their own jobs and rarely attends weekly meetings and sessions. Feeling that our group requires some guidance in order to maintain our overall work on track, I took a proactive role in the meetings and sessions to capture all the information necessary for our final group project.
What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed
Being a leader means you have to step out of your comfort zone and be brave to take on challenges.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
I want to maintain my commitment throughout the sessions as I sometimes feel quite demotivated when my peers did not join the sessions and meetings.
