As the 4th week of the Laidlaw projects draws to a close, and our team begins to wrap up our projects first findings, I reflect back on a week of progress and work.

I developed my understanding of leadership by recognising that it is not simply about authority or giving instructions. Effective leadership involves setting a clear direction, communicating well, and creating an environment in which people feel respected, supported, and motivated to contribute. Members of the team have really began to embrace clear communication and task setting, which is making our workload more streamlined and focussed.

Over time, I also came to understand that strong leaders must be adaptable, self-aware, and willing to learn. Leadership requires balancing confidence with humility, making thoughtful decisions, and taking responsibility while encouraging others to grow and succeed. It is the humility that allows for inclusive leadership, making the most of every member of the team's unique skillset.

As the tangible outcomes of our work become more apparent, the impact we are working towards serves as a motivating factor. I look forward to building on the research of others to make a real difference to the social enterprise landscape of Oxfordshire!
