Laidlaw Field Journal Week 6 - Tatum Hubble

Dr. Teresa Lee has been the most significant part of my research journey this summer, and I am so grateful that the Laidlaw Network provided me with the means to work alongside her the past few weeks.

Once I saw this week's Field Journal prompt, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to share a photo of my mentor, Dr. Teresa Lee, and me at the NewYork-Presbyterian Employee Summer Block Party yesterday evening. There is no better person to celebrate with and to thank for my research success over the past six weeks. Our shared passion for specializing in care for pediatric patients with heart disease fostered an exceptionally efficient workspace, allowing us to complete significant work, including a database encompassing almost 800 unique patients.

Simultaneously, she provided me the opportunity to shadow her while she was on service in the Cardiac ICU and the clinic within the Program for Cardiomyopathy, Heart Failure, and Transplantation, where I learned and witnessed two distinct types of patient care. This experience further nurtured my passion for working with children diagnosed with pediatric congenital heart disease. Last but definitely not least, she is giving me the opportunity to write my own publication on the database during the remainder of the summer and, with her help, publish my six weeks of work in an academic journal. I am incredibly thankful and proud to have Dr. Teresa Lee as my mentor, and it was an obvious choice to feature a picture of us for my final weekly journal entry.
