I have many pictures that encapsulate some aspect of my project, which was to recommission a radiation detector to observe levels of Cs-137 isotopes in food. I ultimately decided to upload this specific picture because it shows the core foundation of my research and where it all started – analyzing a past spectra of radiation to look at the presence of these Cs-137 isotopes, slightly visible in the picture with points marked in red (the photo also features my coffee, which can arguably be considered an essential as well). Over these past six weeks, I developed a data analysis framework to read the area under such peaks without the background area. In order to reach this end product, I first had to familiarize myself with the spectrums outputted by the detector, which is what I was doing in the moment this picture was taken.
