Field journal - Laidlaw week 4

My journal for what went on during this week

I started the week off with my third session at the school, and although we were expecting five participants, only three students attended. Surprisingly, the smaller group size was a blessing in disguise. The session went exceptionally well, staying on track with the lesson plan, and I was pleased to see how much the students could learn. They were engaged, and the smaller group allowed for more individualized attention, which enhanced the experience for both them and me. In addition to the session, I had the opportunity to set up interviews with some of the teachers, which felt like a productive step forward in deepening the research component of my project. The day was both fulfilling and productive, despite the initial hiccup.

Tuesday: The day was a great balance of work and fun. I spent the morning reviewing the plan for our upcoming research report. It felt good to review the details, as it helped solidify the direction we’re heading in with the project. Later, I joined other Laidlaw Scholars for a bowling outing. It was a refreshing change of pace! The energy was lighthearted, and bonding with the other scholars outside of our usual academic environment was a delightful experience. The activity gave me a much-needed break and left me feeling recharged and connected.

Wednesday: Today, I met with my academic supervisor to discuss the progress of the research report. It was a valuable meeting, as I received some insightful feedback on enhancing my work. My supervisor’s encouragement and practical advice on improvements I could make were invaluable. The conversation left me feeling motivated and excited about the next steps in refining the report. It was a productive and inspiring session, and I walked away with a clearer sense of purpose.
