  • Last week the trainings and discussions we had cut across the disciplines. How does the interdisciplinary nature of this program, the fact that students are focusing on such a diverse range of projects, help you think about your project and/or your academic interests more broadly?
    • The interdisciplinary nature of this program is very much enriching. I have always believed that ideas do not respect disciplinary boundaries and so why should we (scholars) respect them. The disciplines offer us modes of inquiry but they questions do not restrain themselves into one mode of thinking. As such, being surrounded by scholars thinking across these modes of inquiry allows me to challenge my own focus on any one discipline in order to explore my question.
  • As you begin your individual research projects this week, do you anticipate any challenges in getting started? If so, what are they?
    • The biggest challenge I anticipated was the setting of deadlines and holding myself accountable to produce something step by step. However, my supervisor has been incredible when it comes to being there for me was a resource and an accountability partner. With him I not only talk thorough my ideas and share my journey but also make sure to tell him my expectations of my work so he knows what standard to hold me to.
