Bringing the Law and People's Experiences Together: LiA Reflection 1

This summer I completed my LiA at an advocacy charity called POhWER. Throughout my LiA, I wrote reflections as emails to the head of my programme, and these are what I am sharing now.

Dear All,

Here's my week one check in.

It's been a successful start to my LiA, with lots of opportunities to learn more about POhWER, meet the staff, and understand how advocacy can make a difference to people's lives. Now that I have this background knowledge, I am super excited to see what I can get involved in during my LiA and how my understanding of leadership will change.

A definitely highlight of this week was sitting in on the executive meeting and learning about the relationship between business strategy and effective advocacy. I also really enjoyed speaking to the CEO and am excited about the projects I am now working on - they definitely stretch my brain!

I'm super proud of myself for proposing a project to one of the Heads of Service that I think will make the advocates' lives better and so improve the services they are providing to their clients.

One goal I have for next week is being more confident in the meetings, and another is continuing to create opportunities for me to make a difference to the organisation and the community they serve.

I'm looking forward to shadowing advocates next week and engaging with the community.

Speak to you soon,

Cornelia
