About The Programme
The Mentor Programme is crafted to empower ambitious, smart, and determined Laidlaw Scholars like you to enhance your leadership journey while contributing to the holistic development of Year 11 and Year 13 students within the Laidlaw Schools Trust.
What Is Involved?
- Engage in a minimum of 30 mentoring sessions between January and June 2024 (excluding Easter Break).
- Participate in both group and one-to-one mentoring sessions;
- Group sessions (with up to 4 students) will centre around fostering confidence, resilience, and personal growth.
- One-to-one sessions will provide tailored support as students approach exams and explore further education opportunities.
- Receive £18 per hour for preparation and delivery of mentoring sessions.
What Will You Gain?
- Learn to articulate complex ideas clearly and empathetically.
- Understand the nuances of motivating individuals to reach their full potential.
- Develop strategies to navigate challenging situations and lead effectively.
- Reflect on the meaning of leadership and the impact of being a positive role model.
Support Provided
- Comprehensive training on youth mentoring via three 2-hour virtual sessions in December (dates TBC).
- Guidance from an experienced LST coach.
- Safeguarding Level 1 accreditation to ensure the welfare of students.
- Access to e-learning resources through the Laidlaw Scholars Network.
- Thoughtful matching of mentors with students to ensure a constructive partnership.
Eligibility
- Current and alumni Laidlaw Scholars from any partner university or those from London Business School and Saïd Business School are welcome to apply.
- Yes, students on a Tier 4 visa are eligible!

Successful applicants will be notified by 17th November 2023.
If selected, please be ready to provide the necessary documentation, which can include your passport/ID documents, proof of residence in the UK, and other information for a DBS check (for UK-based students). More information here.
Non-UK-based students will be required to provide similar documentation, which will include a DBS check and additional police clearance checks for any country where you've lived for 12 months or more. More information here. Additional support for non-UK-based students is available from your University's Laidlaw coordinator.
