Attended my fifth slam poetry event and completed five incredible interviews! I'm so grateful for the experience at Laidlaw. Through my conversations with Black female spoken word artists,  I gained valuable insight into the power of spoken word, understanding how poets beautifully convey their lived experiences to expose and critique injustices they have faced. It was empowering to hear interviewees discuss how they perform not for standing ovations, but to change lives, even if it's just one member of the audience. Inspired by my research experience, I’ve started writing my own poetry, reflecting on my identity, my trauma, and my emotions.
