As a Laidlaw Scholar, I hope to not only develop my leadership and research skills this summer, but I also hope to create deeper relationships within my community in Los Angeles that I will be researching. Studying the toxic waste site that is the Santa Susana Field Lab, I really want to communicate with my neighbors, those I have existing relationships with and those I do not know yet. I hope my project creates increased community awareness and action plans to support environmental remediation. I am also excited to gain more GIS analysis skills that I can apply to other projects related to urban planning.
