Simulation of Baryon Acoustic Oscillations and Detection Thresholds. (Research Report)

How can we accurately measure the expansion of the Universe ? Would you believe me if I told you it is possible by measuring the radii of countless spherical shells generated in our universe shortly after the Big Bang ?

During my summer internship at EPFL’s LASTRO laboratory, I explored this question by studying this phenomenon known as Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO).

My work focused on two key pillars. First, pipeline validation : analyzing calibration data for the upcoming 4MOST survey to ensure the reliability of redshift measurements, a crucial first step in mapping the universe. Second, numerical simulation : characterizing the detectability limits of the BAO signal.

A huge thank you to my supervisor, Aurélien Verdier, and to the Laidlaw Foundation for making this internship possible !
