Erasure, Gatekeeping, and Resilience: The History and Current Status of (Black) Midwifery in the U.S.
Midwifery has its roots deep in American history, with many enslaved African women working as midwives within and outside their communities. The creation of the study of OB/GYN as well as the later professionalization of this field lead to the erasure and gatekeeping (Black) midwives experience now.
