My Laidlaw research investigates how conversational AI can support more adaptive and effective diagnosis of language learning strategies. The proposed framework moves beyond static, one-time self-report assessments by incorporating conversational evidence to develop an evolving understanding of learners’ strategy use and provide personalized strategy support.

The research ultimately aims to strengthen learners’ strategic awareness, self-regulation, and autonomy, enabling them to make more informed decisions about how they approach language learning.
