LiA Week 2 Journal

What went well?

The progress I made; what was achieved and done

I developed a much better sense for the scope of the projects. This week, I really dove into the equity audit for the Town of Reading. I was able to effectively find a significant amount of background information regarding the Town's governance, processes, and current events.

What could have been done differently?

Things that did not get done and/or could be changed

I should have read the project proposal that was submitted by my company earlier. This would have given me a clearer sense of what I had to look for in the equity audit background information.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited

It's helpful for me to advocate for exactly what type of support I need. For example, there were some unclear parts about what I needed to do for background information for the Equity audit. Once I asked more follow-up questions, I was sent some useful documents explaining the scope of the project. Had I realized to ask about those earlier, it would have saved me some time and confusion.

What did I learn about leadership?

Leadership attributes and insights I developed

Giving clear instructions to your team members is super helpful. It helps avoid ambiguity, set expectations, and keep everyone moving in the same direction. That being said, it's also useful to allow for some leeway and individuality.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

What I still need to develop

I would love to get involved with interviews on some of the background information for this equity audit. I have been able to find a lot of information while reading, but I think talking to people will also be informative. I am hoping they are able to provide insight into dynamics that aren’t immediately clear through desktop research.
