An Overview of this Week's Research Activities:
What was the plan and how did I execute it
- After meeting with my mentors one final time, I knew that this week would be on me to finish my projects and meet all of our expectations. After undergoing a second cycle of revisions, I accounted for any last comments or concerns that were brought up and adjusted my paper and posted accordingly. Whether it was grammar, syntax, or color palette choices, I took every possible measure to make sure my products were as cohesive, professional and educational as possible. Since this project became larger than expected, my work this week took a while to complete, but it was all worth it in the end.
Anticipated Plans for the Following Week:
What are my project aspirations moving forward
- With this last week of work dedicated to addressing any final touches for both my research paper, and my research poster the only anticipated plans I have left are to look up possible projects for my Leadership In Action project next summer.
Accomplishments and Goals
Specific tasks
- I was able to FINISH going through the last round of comments left by faculty advisor.
- Although I thought this process would take more than five days, I surpassed my own expectations and was able to accomplish all the self-revision by Friday, July 7th. I then published my final pieces to the Laidlaw Scholars Network, signaling the completion of my first big fellowship project.
- I was able to attend a one-on-one check-in with my peer advisor, Joshua Grundhoefer on Thursday, July 6th to talk about my final thoughts of this summer and my time as a new member of the Laidlaw family.
- I collaborated virtually in this week's CRF-organized research workshop. The topic for this session was general networking and growing upon the research we, as scholars, did this summer.
- I met with my faculty advisor, Professor David Burk of the Economics Department at Georgetown University, again, on Thursday (07/06) where we discussed how this second round of revisions would go, visual preferences for the poster, and to give acknowledgements for the hard work done throughout this process.
- Fulfill my 40 hour a week work requirement by working from home and logging into my computer promptly at 9am, while ending my day at 5pm.
Possible Challenges?
What were my setback(s), if any, and the steps that need to be taken to address this issue
- The only setback I had was finding the "sweet-spot" to stop revising my paper and deem it adequate enough for submissions. However, it was all a matter of being extra diligent and coming to the conclusion that perfection will never be attainable, so the more revising I do, the worse I will feel mentally. After my advisor gave me the green-light, I felt more than comfortable to end my work today. Besides these smaller obstacles, the rest of the touch-up process went fairly smoothly.
Thank you for reading the updates for Week 6 of my fellowship research project, I look forward to presenting my findings to anyone who is interested in reading about business and auditing in general.
