Hi Everyone! I’d like to build on Lord Laidlaw’s really interesting answer to one of the questions posed by Nikol on behalf of a scholar at the Global Induction yesterday. Lord Laidlaw was, I think, responding to a question on what he has learnt during his distinguished career – and mentioned, in relation to decision making, that leaders never have enough information and also extolled the virtues of Critical Thinking.
We have and will continue to touch on both of these concepts during your leadership development sessions - e.g. what makes a good decision and what information do you need to make it. I'd also like to signpost a resource that can help you with your thinking in this area, and may help you with your research planning too:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zcjhfcw/revision/1
- This is a BBC Bitesize resource which should take approximately an hour to work through. The resource, called “Critical Thinking and Problem Solving,” looks at the following:
• Various approaches and techniques for critical thinking, including PESTLE analysis (Political Economic, Social & Cultural, Technological, Legal and Environmental,)
• Primary and Secondary Sources of information
• A model to check the credibility of the information you find - RURU - is it Reliable, Up-to-date, Relevant, and Useful? - Hard and Soft Research – Objective and Subjective.
Good luck in gathering the information you need, when you need it, and making the best decisions possible!
