Our conversation on leadership was in four sections:
- Functions: What do we need leaders for?
- Attributes: What are the qualities of an optimal leader?
- Leadership Skills: Can they be developed? Are leaders born, not made?
- Bad leadership: What makes a bad leader?
The questions I asked Roderic included:
- Who are the leaders you have been most impressed by in your career? What qualities did you admire about them?
- Can you please tell us about a time when you found yourself in a challenging leadership situation? What would your advice be to Scholars who may find themselves in a similar situation in their careers?
- Can you please tell us about a time when you found yourself in a challenging leadership situation? What would your advice be to Scholars who may find themselves in a similar situation in their careers?
We then moved onto speak about leadership in the context of the British Government, This will be particularly relevant to those seeking a career in the Civil Service or in Government more generally.
