Hey! I'm Grace, a second-year natural sciences student at the University of Leeds.
I have a deep curiosity at the intersection between Chemistry and Environmental science. Specifically, I am captivated by sustainable catalysis research, where I envisage helping to find innovative catalysis solutions that don't exploit the planets most scarce resources.
My summer research is part of the 'sustainable curriculum' initiative, exploring the intersection of AI and sustainability education.
I am a Laidlaw and University of Leeds Alumni - My Laidlaw research project investigated if a community-based dance programme could improve the physical and psychological wellbeing of socio-economically disadvantaged older adults. Here is a link to a short film of my research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNOL8AuAKRs&t=3s
I am interested in sport, health, performance, injury prevention and personal development. I currently coach strength and conditioning to youth athletes to improve their athletic performance.
Hi, I'm Alice, a Biochemistry student at the University of Leeds. I love science as I am fascinated by understanding how life works at a chemical and cellular level, but I also have a very arty side, with passions including painting and music.
This Summer I will be doing a research project into improving the efficiency of pig-feeding methods, to decrease environmental impact and reduce waste. I will be looking into how current phase feeding methods can be optimized by more closely meeting the nutritional requirements of the pigs at each stage.
Hi everyone! I am a recent graduate in BSc Natural Sciences from the University of Leeds and an alumni of the Laidlaw Leadership and Research Scholarship. In my research project, I identified the structural changes in heart muscle cell organisation in a condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy (see content section). I also completed a placement year at Roche Pharmaceuticals working on data science projects in the pharmaceutical research, early development, and product development departments. For my Leadership in Action project, I went to Mexico City to work on a sustainability project with make_sense (see content section).
There are 25 annual Laidlaw Scholarships that provide funding to enable you to develop leadership and research skills through a range of personal development activities and two six week periods of project work throughout your time at Leeds.
