About Emma Franck-Gwinnell

I graduated from Durham University in July 2019, having completed my Laidlaw Undergraduate Scholarship in Research and Leadership, where I focused on business' responsibilities to stop modern slavery in their supply chains, and the impact that the law can have on this. From February 2020, I will be beginning my journey towards qualifying as a commercial solicitor with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. Until then, I'm spending my non-working time catching up on podcasts, reading lots of books, and visiting lots of heritage sites. Please don't hesitate to contact me to talk about careers in commercial law, student leadership while at university, and anything else you think I might be interested in.

Emma Franck-Gwinnell - Laidlaw poster

Many jurisdictions have introduced modern slavery "transparency" legislation, requiring organisations to disclose steps they are taking to fight slavery in their supply chains. However, most such legislation is ineffective. My research asked why this is so, and how the legislation can be improved.
