The secret to 4.0 GPA

Started about 3 years ago

Hi fellows I want to start this thread to discuss how to get good grades for college/coursework. For medical students and premed students, GPA is nonetheless one of the most essential assessment criteria. If you have any thoughts/experiences on getting good grades/nailing exams or simply efficient learning in general, feel free to share it here.

I personally found the advice from Youtuber Ali Abdaal quite helpful. The two strategies he suggested, active recall and spaced repetition, works quite well for bio-related courses. Active recall emphasis encouraging you to recall the material from your memory as opposed to passive-review of content, and spatial repetition help you to keep record and store the knowledge in long-term memory. Check out his video for details!

Any other thoughts on GPA and grades? feel free to comment here. :)

I think something that is very important to keep in mind is the method of studying per course. A lot of students end up assuming that every course is the same, and thus should be studied in the same way. There are optimal ways to learn the best in each respective course.

On that topic, the idea of efficiency comes to mind. That's something I've been looking into––trying to be as efficient as possible when studying. There are strategies that are available to maximize the results by minimizing the workflow needed. For example, you don't need to do all the questions on the physics textbook if half of them are the "identical" question (that can be solved in the same way), rather do some questions until you develop a general understanding of the method of solving them. If a question throws a curveball at you, that's one that you should actually take the time to mechanically solve.

What are your other techniques on studying for a good GPA?

Valid point Brandon! Better study smart than hard. 👨🏻‍🎓
