Happy Earth Day, everyone! 🌎 Last Saturday marked the annual Earth Day, dedicated to supporting environmental protection. To mark this occasion, we are featuring a quote from Native American economist and environmentalist Winona LaDuke.

Winona LaDuke (1959-) is a Native American economist and environmental activist who has devoted her academic and professional career to championing environmental protection. She attended Harvard University and earned a degree in economics with a focus on rural economic development. After graduation, she reconnected with her Native American routes and moved to the Ojibwe White Earth Reservation in Minnesota, where she worked as the principal of the local high school.

LaDuke is a prominent figure in championing environmental protection and the protection of indigenous rights in the US. She co-founded the Indigenous Women's Network, an organisation that Native American women and their families have sovereignty over themselves. She also founded the White Earth Land Recovery Project to buy back land on her reservation, with prize money from an award she received, that non-Natives had purchased. Notably, LaDuke also ran for the Vice Presidency of the United States in 1996 and 2000 as a nominee of the Green Party.
