This week, our leadership quote of the week comes from Brené Brown, a researcher, professor and author. Brown is a source of leadership inspiration for Nitya Nangalia, one of our Women in Business Scholars from Säid Business School, University of Oxford.
Brené Brown (1965-) is a professor and author whose research focuses on shame, vulnerability, leadership difficulties and the hurdles those in leadership positions face. A native Texan, Brown completed her undergraduate and master's degrees in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin and earned her PhD researching social work at the University of Houston.
Brown rose to prominence in 2010 following her TEDx talk, ' The Power of Vulnerability'. Her talk remains one of the most popular TEDx talks to date. Six of her books have been featured as #1 on The New York Times bestsellers list. In 2019, Brown's lecture, The Call to Courage, debuted on Netflix, discussing what it takes to choose courage over comfort in our society. In 2021, her book Atlas of the Heart was developed into a docuseries on HBO Max.
Since 2020, Brown also hosts the Unlocking Us and the Dare to Lead podcasts, where she shares lessons learned from her life and invites guests to do the same based on their experiences. She is also the CEO of The Daring Way, a professional training and certification program on the topics of vulnerability, courage, shame, and empathy.
