Week Two: Meeting Others & Exploring
The second week of my LiA felt rather short because of Canada Day, but it was somehow even busier than week one. I was assigned a lot of H&C cases and was also taught about the requirements for other types of immigration applications, including Temporary Resident Permits. Although I am technically working under FCJ's lawyer, I found myself floating between different sections of the refugee center, working closely with others in the center on a wide variety of cases. I even had my first meeting with one of the center's clients, who needed help getting an extension on her work permit. It was rather nervewracking and I definitely need to work on my confidence in speaking with others, but it means a lot to be able to help someone directly, and of course that's what the LiA project is all about! I look forward to doing it more this coming week.
I had Canada Day off, and I mostly spent it hiding from the heatwave in my room. However, I got to try a beavertail for the first time (very sweet but delicious) and saw the fireworks! Additionally, I spent Saturday visiting some family I have in the Greater Toronto Area, which was a lot of fun. Overall, it was a busy but good week and I am excited to see what comes next in week 3.
