Week Four in Lima: Empowering Artisans through Partnership
A New Opportunity: Collaboration with Selina Hotel
In the fourth week of our volunteer journey, we embarked on an exciting project aimed at creating sustainable income for the women of the Cantagallo community. Our team worked diligently to establish a partnership with the Selina hotel, organizing a fair to showcase and sell the community's beautiful handcrafted artwork. This collaboration had the potential to become a monthly event, providing a steady source of income and greater visibility for their crafts.
Crafting the Contract: SELINA SELLING PROPOSAL
To ensure the success of this initiative, we focused on drafting a comprehensive proposal. Here are the key elements we included:
- History/Info of Artwork: We provided detailed background information on the techniques and traditions behind the crafts, particularly focusing on Kene, the intricate and culturally significant designs of the Shipibo-Conibo tribe.
- Cultural Significance: Highlighting the rich cultural heritage and the importance of these crafts in the lives of the Cantagallo community.
- Information on Shipibo-Conibo Tribe/Cantagallo: Offering insights into the community's history and their journey from the Peruvian jungle to Lima.
-
Marketing Materials: Creating promotional materials, including photos and possibly a QR code linking to social media.
Implementation and Future Prospects
With the contract details ironed out, we moved forward with organizing the first fair. The women artisans were enthusiastic and worked tirelessly to prepare their finest crafts.

Reflections on Week Four
This week has been a testament to the power of collaboration and the impact of creating economic opportunities for marginalized communities. Working on the contract and organizing the fair was both challenging and rewarding. Seeing the pride and joy on the faces of the women as they showcased their art to us was incredibly fulfilling.
I am optimistic about the future of this partnership and the potential for the Cantagallo community to thrive through their artistic heritage.
