Mission

The Laidlaw Scholars Advisory Board is devoted to amplifying the voices and perspectives of our Scholars. Our mission is to bridge the gap between Scholars and the Laidlaw Foundation, fostering a collaborative relationship that propels the evolution of our programmes. By weaving Scholar insights into our decision-making, we aim to enrich the journey for all, cultivating leaders who lead with integrity.

Role Outline

  • Feedback and Insights: Offer constructive feedback on the Laidlaw Scholars Leadership & Research programme, aligning it with Scholar needs.
  • Inclusivity: Ensure all voices within the Scholar community are heard in Board discussions.
  • Collaborative Initiatives: Co-create new intiatives or enhance existing ones with Board members and Foundation staff.
  • Scholar Liaison: Serve as a conduit between the Scholar community and the board, bringing insights, concerns, and suggestions.

Board Details

  • Term: Flexible - 1 year or 2 years
  • Meetings: Thrice yearly - Spring, Early Summer, and Autumn
  • Time Commitment: Members should expect to commit approximately 1-2 hours monthly for Board responsibilities, including meeting preparations and follow-ups.

Eligibility

  • Current Laidlaw Scholars from the Laidlaw Scholars Leadership & Research Programme;
  • Alumni Scholars from the Laidlaw Scholars Leadership & Research Programme who completed the programme within the last two years.

How to Apply

We are thrilled to welcome applications for the Laidlaw Scholar Advisory Board! As part of our continuous efforts to optimise our processes, we are conducting an A/B test to determine the most effective application method. Depending on your university's location, there are two distinct ways to apply:

For Scholars from UK & European Universities: Self-Nomination

To apply via self-nomination, please follow these detailed steps:

  1. Email Subject Line: Use the exact subject line "Laidlaw Scholar Advisory Board Application" in your email to ensure your application is directed appropriately.

  2. Personal Statement: Attach a document (PDF format preferred) that includes a personal statement of no more than 500 words. In your statement, please elaborate on the following points:

    • Motivation: Clearly articulate why you wish to join the Laidlaw Scholars Advisory Board (SAB).
    • Vision: Share your vision for the SAB role and how you can contribute.
    • Relevant Experience: Describe any experiences and/or skills that you believe make you a strong candidate.
    • Aspirations: Outline your aspirations for the Foundation and how the SAB can play a role in realizing those.
  3. Email Address: Send your application to contact@laidlawfoundation.com

For Scholars from North American Universities and the University of Hong Kong: Nomination by Laidlaw Coordinator

To be nominated by your Laidlaw coordinator, please adhere to the following steps:

  1. Express Interest: Approach your Laidlaw coordinator and express your interest in joining the Laidlaw Scholars Advisory Board. Briefly explain why you believe you would be a valuable addition.

  2. Coordinator Nomination: If your coordinator assesses that you are a suitable fit, they will take the necessary steps to nominate you. This includes preparing and sending an official nomination on your behalf directly to the Laidlaw Foundation.

  3. Await Further Instructions: Once nominated, you may be required to provide additional information or partake in further discussions.

Key Dates:

  • Application Deadline: November 26, 2023
  • Selection Announcement: December 8, 2023
  • First SAB Meeting: March 2024 (exact date TBC)
