Season's Greetings and a Happy New Year!
In 2021 we welcomed Barnard College, Georgetown University and London School of Economics to our Laidlaw Scholars Leadership and Research programme, now including 14 of the world’s top universities. Our new cohort of Laidlaw Scholars at Cornell University produced their first, truly exceptional, research papers.
The first Women in Business Laidlaw Scholars at Oxford’s Saïd Business School started their MBAs and wowed us with their passion and commitment. We held our first London Business School hybrid event and met two cohorts of Women in Business Scholars – each of whom is indubitably a CEO in waiting. We launched a Women in Business university Access Programme at Trinity College Dublin, expanding the ways in which we can help propel more women into leadership roles.
We committed $50m to investing in start-ups founded by Laidlaw Scholars and launched Laidlaw Scholars Ventures to do just that. All the profits from the fund will be invested back into Foundation programmes.
At Laidlaw Schools Trust, we celebrated all our primary schools being judged good, or, in the case of the amazing Westgate Hill Primary School, Outstanding. We opened a new Teaching and Leadership Centre at our Outstanding secondary school, Sedgefield Community College. We are so proud of and grateful to Ian Simpson, our new Laidlaw Schools Trust CEO, and all the teachers and staff. In the midst of the most trying of times, they have done transformational things.
These are just some of the highlights of a year full of firsts, as we continue to act on our belief that inspirational education changes lives. Thank you for all your support and your commitment to our programmes. We look forward to working with you and our wonderful community of pupils, scholars, academics and educationalists next year as we develop a new generation of kind, open, happy, global citizens and ethical leaders.
