This week, we are featuring a leadership quote from the fashion icon Mary Quant to mark her recent passing.
Mary Quant (1930-2023) was a British fashion designer and fashion icon. Originally selling clothes in a boutique in London, she self-taught herself the art of designing clothes and reached out to manufacturers individually.
She rose to prominence as a designer in the 1960s, and became known for her youthful and colourful designs for women. Quant is one of the designers widely credited for the prominence of the miniskirt and hotpants in the 1960s.
In 1966, Women's Wear Daily, the fashion magazine named Quant one of the fashion revolutionaires alongside other prominent designers of the age. In the same year, she was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. In 2015, she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in New Year Honours list.
