Research Project: EDI in Engineering

This is a brief overview of my research topic for this summer: EDI in engineering. The research will aim to give better insights into the benefits and necessity of a more inclusive engineering sector. Feel free to reach out with questions or insights about the topic if interested!

My research project will  work on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in engineering. In particular, I will review EDI policies adopted by firms in other industries and explore the impact of these policies on these organisations. This will give a better understanding of what elements and aspects of EDI policies should be implemented in the engineering industry and in university engineering departments.

What makes this so relevant to the UN Sustainable Development Goals is that this research examines policies which aim to improve gender equality (goal 5) and reduce inequalities (goal 10). Furthermore, the increased implementation of EDI policies in the engineering industry has also been shown to increase profits and promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

This research will provide deeper insight into how issues of equality, diversity and inclusion are being addressed in other industries. These insights will aim to give a more comprehensive report on what potential changes could be made  to these policies in engineering, as well as highlighting many of the potential benefits of improved EDI.
