Raise Your Abilities to the Height of Your Goals
Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) was an Indian Hindu monk, philosopher and author. He played an important role in introducing the Indian practices of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world, and he is credited with raising Hinduism to become a major world religion during the late 19th century.
Vivekananda toured the Indian subcontinent widely to learn about living conditions in British India. He additionally travelled to the US to speak for India and introduce Hinduism at the 1893 Parliament of the World's Religion. Over his lifetime, he conducted hundreds of public and private lectures and classes, disseminating tenets of Hindu philosophy in the United States, England and Europe.
In India, Vivekananda was a key player in contemporary Hindu reform movements, and his birthday is celebrated as National Youth Day.
