This World Water Day, we celebrate Anishinaabe Indigenous water-rights advocate and leading global youth environmental activist, Autumn Peltier. World Water Day is observed every year on March 22 to highlight the importance of water and raise awareness about the global water crisis.

Peltier advocates for clean drinking water in First Nations communities and acts as Chief Water Commissioner for the Anishnabek Nation. At the age of thirteen, in 2018, she addressed world leaders at the UN General Assembly on the issue of contaminated water on Indigenous reserves across Canada. She was nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
