After six weeks diving into mobility data from Kenya and Laos, I’ve finally completed the first draft of my report!

Just six weeks ago, I didn’t even own a laptop, so wrapping my head around Python and the world of data analysis has been a steep learning curve. But with guidance from my supervisors - and a few late-night coding sessions - I’ve managed to uncover some eye-opening patterns. The results highlight stark gender- and income-related inequalities in mobility, from licence and vehicle ownership to access to public transport and attitudes toward electric vehicles.

Even better, the analysis has allowed me to make policy recommendations, ranging from expanding licence access and improving transport safety, to supporting equitable uptake of electric vehicles.

I feel incredibly privileged to have this opportunity and am excited to continue refining the report and exploring these issues further. It’s been an intense, challenging, and ultimately rewarding introduction to research and data analysis.
