make_sense Project Learning Review (Week 3)

What went well?

The progress I made; what was achieved and done

We began recruiting volunteer and began designing the prototype for our project, which we learnt to do during the educational sessions. With regards to volunteer recruitment, I sent out a recruitment form to friends who are interested and volunteering, and initiated a recruitment campaign on social media, to attract likeminded people. Overall, we recruited slightly above our target number of volunteers which is exciting. Moreover, we have began posting informative post about our topic on instagram to build our platform.

What could have been done differently?

Things that did not get done and/or could be changed

I think my teammate and I need to improve on our communication especially since there is a time difference with us being in different countries. This slightly hindered our discussion and project planning, however, we were able to over come this. To improve, we can set more regular discussion sessions to allow more effective communication.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited

I had to apply various critical thinking skills and had to consider various options when designing a prototype for our project. Through this, I had to learn from my mistakes from previous projects and also throughout this project. Additionally, I have never conducted a project of this nature, I had to be innovative and risk taking.

What did I learn about leadership?

Leadership attributes and insights I developed

I became more resilient and more risk taking since I have to consider novel concepts to attract the interest of our volunteers and the general public, to be able to create impact and have a successful campaign.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

What I still need to develop

Our project plan still needs to be further solidified before contacting the volunteers and starting the impact campaign. I also think I need to improve on describing the project detail, since there can be occasional miscommunications with other make_sense members. Overall, we are making good progress.
