What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done
This was the first week of my leadership-in-action journey with Make_sense and it was quite eventful. I learned a lot about developing a project and applied design thinking with my partner to come up with a topic idea. We decided on targeting waste pollution in Hong Kong, with the emphasis of single use plastic created as a result of the increase demand of takeout during the pandemic. Additionally, I got a brief introduction about how to recruit volunteers and develop a sense of belonging within a community.
What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
I think I can be better with my time management as I did not allocate enough time to develop my plan during the week, therefore, this could be improved in the following weeks. Additionally, I think I can contribute to the discussions more.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
When I was working with others, I contributed different ideas and perspectives during discussions, and effectively listened to other people’s contributions. I exhibited curiosity since I actively researched about new topics that interested me regarding climate change.
What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed
I learned how to be a critical thinker since I had to evaluate the reliability of research sources and to compile useful information as background for my future project.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
I want to focus on researching and building my project with my teammate, and to work on my time management and collaboration skills since it was significantly benefit us in the future.
