Birthdays are held near and dear in people’s hearts. And in SOS, the kid’s birthdays are dear to them too. For this reason, we wanted to appreciate one of the kids who was celebrating their birthday in week four with a birthday rap. In the words of Youness, our coordinator, kids having even one person showing them that they're loved and seen and cared for can go a very long way.

We made a call and response rap that we sang along with the kids, and I think that was a great opportunity for us to show them that we not only appreciate and celebrate them, but that their peers love and appreciate them too, and even after we leave, they know that they have people surrounding them that have their back, people who’ll always cheer them on when it’s their birthday, people who’ll compose poems, and songs, and messages to them telling them how much they grateful to have them as a friend.
