Having completed my six-week Laidlaw summer, I can safely say that I wasn't sure what would be in store for me. And though, sure enough, my projects evolved tremendously from when I was first discussing with professors over email last school year, I feel my main goal has remained somewhat stable. Having contributed to the work of several ongoing United Nations Committees, I was really able to create a throughline from the purely archival research work I did on racial discrimination last summer to the work I did preparing for these real-time conventions with lasting, tangible impacts. My goal has been to connect the skills I had developed before, including the leadership skills of communication, organization, and initiative, and apply them to the development of new skills, especially in areas where I felt my contributions would be utilized, whether that be in international human rights law settings or simply in facilitating further discussions into non-discrimination and equality across the world. I've developed important skills of independence, resilience, balance, and curiosity that I feel will serve me well in the community engagement work I continue to participate in.
