Core Goal

My Leadership in Action project aims to make the humanitarian impact of SOS Children’s Villages Nepal visible through ethical, child‑centered photography and videography. I will document daily life, care programs, and community stories to raise awareness, inspire donor support, and amplify the voices of vulnerable children and families, while growing as a responsible, empathetic leader in cross‑cultural humanitarian communication.

Key Objectives

  1. Create impactful visual content
Produce high‑quality photos, videos, and short narratives that authentically showcase SOS’s work in alternative care, education, health support, family strengthening, and community development across multiple Nepalese project sites.
  2. Practice ethical storytelling with children
Prioritize children’s safety, privacy, dignity, and comfort in all filming and photography; build trust through genuine connection and represent stories with sensitivity and empathy.
  3. Strengthen cross‑cultural collaboration & leadership
Work closely with local SOS staff, translators, and fellow Laidlaw scholars to plan, coordinate, and deliver content; lead creative production and post‑processing with initiative and accountability.
  4. Develop professional & leadership skills
Advance technical skills in photography, video editing, and field documentation; build adaptive leadership, cross‑cultural communication, teamwork, and project delivery in an international NGO setting.
  5. Support long-term organizational communication
Deliver ready‑to‑use visual materials that SOS can use for donor engagement, fundraising, advocacy, and public outreach beyond my placement.

Expected Outcomes

  • Organizational Impact: A complete portfolio of photos and videos that clearly communicate SOS Nepal’s programs, strengthen transparency, and help secure ongoing support for children and families.
  • Community & Child-Centered Value: Ethical, dignified documentation that honors children’s identities and preserves positive memories without exploitation.
  • Personal & Leadership Growth: Improved creative technical skills; stronger ability to lead collaboratively, communicate cross‑culturally, and manage end‑to‑end project delivery.
  • Sustainable Assets: Reusable visual content, story frameworks, and field insights that support SOS’s communications strategy for future seasons.
  • SDG Alignment: Direct contribution to SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
This LiA integrates my passion for visual storytelling, experience working with children, and commitment to humanitarian action. It allows me to turn creative skills into real social impact while becoming a more thoughtful, ethical, and globally minded leader.
