- To improve my workshop skills and confidence, particularly on some of the bigger power tools.
- To increase my understanding of the challenges that disabled children face when hitting developmental milestones, and how good design can help them.
- To work with people outside my usual social circles, and widen my horizons.
- To practise leadership within the workshop.
- To be given the opportunity and responsibility to take on designing a piece for a child.
- To show creativity and originality in my designs.
- To have the chance to use some of the skills and techniques from my engineering classes.
- To make tangible, real change for at least one person in New York.
- To have the experience of living in a completely new city where I don’t know anyone for six weeks, and navigate those challenges on my own.
- To try foods and visit museums that I couldn’t at home – generally have a cultural experience.
