  1. To improve my workshop skills and confidence, particularly on some of the bigger power tools.
  2. To increase my understanding of the challenges that disabled children face when hitting developmental milestones, and how good design can help them.
  3. To work with people outside my usual social circles, and widen my horizons.
  4. To practise leadership within the workshop.
  5. To be given the opportunity and responsibility to take on designing a piece for a child.
  6. To show creativity and originality in my designs.
  7. To have the chance to use some of the skills and techniques from my engineering classes.
  8. To make tangible, real change for at least one person in New York.
  9. To have the experience of living in a completely new city where I don’t know anyone for six weeks, and navigate those challenges on my own.
  10. To try foods and visit museums that I couldn’t at home – generally have a cultural experience.
